Free Download: Matthew Duffy "#1 Enemy"

Matthew Duffy is pissed and he wants you to know about it. The New York singer vents his emotions and explores his anger on his gritty new single "#1 Enemy." Duffy doesn't appear to be the type to rant about what's bothering him. On "#1 Enemy," he rather presents himself in a calm and calculated manner to create a sleek and solid electro-tune. Listening to the song, I can't stop to wonder when he is about to explode with all that underlying tension that is palpable in the music.
Duffy first hit the music scene in 2004 with his self-released "Here I Come" that included his Billboard dance hit "Electro Shock." After finishing NYU's prestigious Tish School of the Arts with a degree in dance, the artist turned down the opportunity to join a dance company. Instead he focused on a career as a singer and songwriter, while making ends meet by working at a hip clothing boutique.
"#1 Enemy" is taken from "The Healing Machine," Duffy's second album, which will be out this spring. After a brief flirt with Sony's Music With A Twist label, Duffy decided to independently release the CD. The disc reflects Duffy's vision to use music as a "curative power to set you free." "When I didn't have the answer I turned to music first to heal me," Duffy says in a press statement. "Music helped me find my way, gave me power."The video for "#1 Enemy" will explain more about what's on the singer's mind. An insider tells me that it will juxtapose the two meanings of the song. The first being an actual enemy of his, the next posing him as an enemy of the state due to his lifestyle "choices." It is directed by Eric Shoe, who has worked with Snoop Dogg, Wyclef Jean, and Bow Wow. (Thanks to Matthew for allowing me to share this track.)
