The Noissettes' "Mind The Gap" is not your usual Arjanwrites.com fare. But in the spirit of keeping things sweet and also crunchy, I'm sharing some free music of this fast and furious new Brit sensation. The song is taken from the group's debut "What's the Time Mr. Wolf?" that will be out on Motown Records in April.
The Noisettes are enigmatic frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith and drummer Jamie Morrison. Shoniwa and Smith first met in music school during the first-ever gig of a group of students who later would become The Feeling. The pop crooners were the teachers' darlings. Shoniwa comments in a press release how she tried to sabotage a school concert with The Feeling by dancing wildly right in front of the stage.
That's a good indication of the rebel and anti-conformity attitude of The Noisettes. "Mind The Gap" is all over the place with its wild melodic and rhythm progressions. The song is like a rollercoast ride with unexpected twist and turns that will leave you loving or disliking it. I have not made up my mind yet. It is definitely a tune that needs to grow on me. I am mostly intrigued by singer Shingai Shoniwa who is a blast fresh of air in the indie rock scene reminiscent of Skunk Anansie. (Thanks to Universal for allowing me to post this track.)
