The guys from Team Facelift are living the high life. New York's "sauciest" dance/rap trio combines swanky melodies with stories about "extreme hedonism, including sex, drugs, all-you-can-eat buffets and seaweed facials," as they like to describe it.
The track "Rub Down Music" is taken from the group's new album "Mixed Emotions." The song was inspired by a trip to Brazil where Fat Jew, Machine and Karim Fonda played a charity gig. "We performed for about 2 hours, and were thoroughly exhausted," Fat Jew writes me. "After the show we went to a spa to get European facials, chemical peels, massages, and to generally unwind. At the spa there was a band playing Brazilian country music called 'sertanejo,' which was quite soothing, and Machine looked up from his massage and said 'Now this is rub down music.'"
"Mixed Emotions" got marked with a parental advisory sticker for a reason. Team Facelift is often explicit in their storytelling, but it is all in the spirit of good fun.The effervescent "Rub Down Music" might not be your cup of tea, but if you enjoy some tight, sexy beats and laid-back raps this might just be the tune to kick your week into gear.
